Simon Backhouse graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Optometry, (First Class Honours) in 2004, and with a PhD in Optometry in 2009. He has been involved in teaching at The University of Auckland, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and was a limited term lecturer in the Department of Optometry and Vision Science in 2009. He is currently undertaking research at the University as the inaugural recipient of the NZAO Education and Research Fund Post-doctoral Fellowship. He also works part-time as an Optometrist in private practice.
