Light exposure patterns in children

This study investigates the effect of light exposure on myopia development in children. Children wear small light-meter badges which monitor light exposure every few seconds over long periods. Refractive status of each child is followed over time to explore the relationships between light exposure, refractive changes and the development of myopia.

Refractive development of the cephalopod eye

This study investigates the effect of chromatically controlled environments on developing cephalopod eyes. We are investigating both the normal development of octopus eyes, and squid raised from eggs in controlled environments, and measuring their eye growth and development using a variety of novel techniques.

Light and myopia

Recent epidemiological research suggests that outdoor activity during childhood may protect against myopia development, but it is unclear which aspects of outdoor activity account for the effect. This project investigates the parameters of light exposure in relation to development of experimental myopia in an animal model.
