Head of School Message – end of year

As I write this final post of the year, it is fine and sunny outside, which is an excellent way to end the year which for many started on a less pleasant meteorological note with the widespread flooding associated with the Auckland Anniversary Weekend storm followed soon after by Cyclone Gabrielle.

The end of each year is also marked by the enjoyable occasion of the faculty’s December graduation ceremonies which celebrate the success of the 2023 Bachelor of Optometry class and our postgraduate students from Masters and PhD programmes. These graduation ceremonies are an outwards sign of the ongoing efforts of the staff of the school, professional, technical, clinical and academic, to produce excellent outcomes in teaching and research throughout the year.

The various posts assembled within this blog highlight the great range of successes and demonstrations of excellence from our school community, and I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their outstanding work and contributions to the school throughout the year.

I hope that you all take the opportunity of the upcoming holiday period to make time for yourself and your friends and whānau, and enjoy the summer weather.

E ngaki ana a mua, e tōtō mai ana a muri – first clear the weeds, then plant, or, make time to clear the mind

Noho ora mai

Head, School of Optometry and Vision Science
