About our School

Since 2012, The School of Optometry and Vision Science has been a part of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.  The faculty has recently upgraded the Grafton campus and thus Optometry and Vision Science has new modern teaching and research facilities at its disposal.

The main teaching programme offered is the undergraduate Bachelor of Optometry degree which is accredited by the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand.  It prepares graduates to practice in both New Zealand and Australia and is the only programme of its in kind in New Zealand.  Students gain professional experience both at the University Optometry clinics, which operate at Grafton and Tamaki campuses, and at other sites such as hospitals and private practices.

In addition to the Bachelor of Optometry, The School of Optometry and Vision Science offers study at postgraduate level and staff members are actively involved in innovative research.  Options for study and research are continually developing.
