Over summer we had the opportunity to develop and trial a program to run the stimulus in a saccades test. This research has contributed to our interest in a Honours year project in Optometry looking at the applicability of saccades test as diagnostic technique for Alzheimer’s disease.

Over summer I applied immunocytochemical techniques to determine whether amyloid beta peptides were present in lends and retina in the Octodon degus. I am now completing my part III Optometry degree.

Aquaporins (AQs) are water channel proteins expressed in many tissues. I had an opportunity to label human normal and AMD retina with antibodies against AQs isoforms and describe the labelling pattern. I am now finishing my part IV Optom courses.

I have been in the lab since 2012. I did an internship that allowed me to learn about retinal research. I conducted a summer project on expression of Alzheimer’s disease molecules in the retina of Octodon degus, followed by my Honours year researching expression of markers in the lens.
